FKJ has always had a gift for making intricate music feel easy, and “Changes Rising” is another fine example. Released ahead of his third album, Tyber, the single brings together jazz, neo-soul, funk and R&B without ever sounding crowded. There is a lovely looseness to the rhythm, while bright guitar phrases and soft synthesizers give the track its gentle lift.
His understated vocals sit comfortably inside the arrangement, adding a personal touch rather than demanding the spotlight. What I enjoy most is how naturally the song moves. Every small instrumental detail seems to arrive at just the right moment, and the groove stays engaging without pushing too hard.
Beneath that relaxed sound is a hopeful idea: difficult periods pass, and change can open the door to something better. FKJ communicates that feeling with warmth and restraint, letting the music carry much of the emotion.
For me, “Changes Rising” is the kind of track that gets better with repeated listens. It is thoughtful, beautifully played and quietly uplifting, reminding us why FKJ remains such a distinctive and gifted musician.
