Plasma Chasms – Chrysalis

Plasma Chasms’ debut album Chrysalis is a mesmerizing journey that invites listeners into a unique exploration of the human condition. Formed by Australian Jane Drewett and American Adrian Guerrero in Los Angeles, Plasma Chasms brings a fascinating blend of psychedelic rock infused with indie and retro influences, creating a sound that’s both nostalgic and refreshing. This album marks their evolution from their 2022 self-titled EP, expanding their sonic palette while maintaining their signature vibe.

Chrysalis unfolds like a cosmic elevator ride, each track taking the listener deeper into an existential exploration. The album’s non-linear structure is unified by its thematic cohesiveness, with its spacey, neo-vintage psychedelic pop transporting listeners through different dimensions of sound. The instrumentation—melodic guitars, intricate bass grooves, and dreamy synths—coupled with vocal harmonies that blend seamlessly into a seemingly third voice, gives each track its own identity while contributing to a larger cohesive experience. As the band themselves put it, Chrysalis reflects the “in-between” phase of life, a journey between being a caterpillar and becoming a butterfly, a time of transformation and growth.

This album feels like an introspective journey with a cosmic twist, and Chrysalis is not just a listening experience, it’s an invitation to evolve alongside its captivating soundscapes.
