Wellington indie rock outfit Wet Denim deliver something genuinely moving with “Outdated,” a standout single from their latest EP, Water For Dogs. Built around the difficult reality of friendships falling apart, the track captures the strange feeling of looking back at people who once meant everything but now feel like strangers.
The gentle guitar work sets a reflective mood before the arrangement gradually opens up, allowing the emotion to hit harder. Nick Goodwin’s expressive vocals bring warmth and frustration to the song, while the band’s natural chemistry gives every moment a convincing sense of purpose. There’s an appealing balance between the melodic sweetness and the rougher edges of their alternative rock sound.
What I particularly admire about “Outdated” is how Wet Denim turn an uncomfortable, familiar experience into something uplifting without pretending that moving on is easy. The songwriting feels personal, and the growing intensity makes the final stretch especially rewarding.
With its heartfelt delivery, memorable melodies, and confident musicianship, “Outdated” proves that Wet Denim are developing into a band with plenty worth saying.
