Chicago’s Trickshooter Social Club have a knack for making rock music feel lived in, and “Wide Awake” is a fine example. Taken from their 2026 EP Porchlight Pie, the track comes charging out with restless drums and rough edged guitars, setting a pace that rarely lets up. There is a welcome looseness to the performance, but the band never loses its grip on the song.
What gives “Wide Awake” its staying power is the thought behind all that noise. Its call to pay attention, rather than drift through another day on autopilot, feels especially relevant. The music matches that urgency without turning the message into a lecture. Gritty vocals, a firm rhythmic drive and flashes of garage rock attitude make the whole thing sound immediate and convincing.
I particularly like how the band leaves the edges showing. Nothing feels overly polished or calculated, and that suits a song about being present in your own life. “Wide Awake” has the heart of Americana and the punch of straight ahead rock. It is energetic, thoughtful and well worth turning up loud.
